about
Two weeks ago, on the New Moon, I went to a sound bath. The experience was more than I can put in to words now, but one thing that particularly struck me were the gongs. Contained solely within these instruments was an entire symphony orchestra. Inspired by these sounds, I returned home and began working on this piece, wanting to explore a wider range of frequencies.
I attempted this by utilizing two separate Harmonic Series based on the root notes of C = 256 cycles per second and Ab = 208 cycles per second. (C = 256 cps is also known as scientific pitch and yields A = 432.) I was hoping to capture some of the amazing consonance and grinding dissonance of the gongs by playing with these two individual series.
At the same time as the piece was developing, two specific artists began re-capturing my attention. I was drawn to both Hilma af Klint and Johannes Itten and their ideas on color theory and its applications.
Lastly, this Hunter's Moon occurs on the precipice of Scorpio season. Hilma af Klint and Johannes Itten were both born under this sign, (with Hilma af Klint passing away on October 21st!) and I can't help but think that this is a piece of their essence which attracts me to them. By having six of my own placements in water signs, I feel a special affinity for my watery brothers and sisters.
The amazing image that represents the sound of this piece was created by the one and only Anne-Marie Eugene. https://www.exploringsoul.com
